About The Work

The Riley School of Integrated Somatic Bodywork is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that addresses the emotional component of pain.

The hands-on component of RSISB consists of a very light touch through which the places in the body that are out of balance, holding pain, or inhibiting movement are addressed. This very gentle, non-invasive technique releases the tissues of the body without any force or pain, and pent-up emotion, pain, and physical compensation shift and come back in to balance.

RSISB combines hands-on work with somatic re-education a system of practitioner-monitored, client-initiated movement education that re-connects the deepest part of the brain to the movement of the body. Oftentimes, we continue to compensate for an injury after it has healed because we carry the physical habit and emotional memory of the pain in our bodies. RSISB also includes instruction in posture and body mechanics.

The process is supported with body-centered psychotherapy . As the body moves and shifts in to a pattern of release, deep-seated emotions that have been held in the tissues start to surface. These emotional changes are honored and supported with mindfulness and compassion as the body seeks its own wisdom and balance.
